Presentation
The PWG is organized under the umbrella of the Pig Study Commission, and aims to construct a scientific platform for poultry researchers. As a group of scientifically active researchers in several disciplines: animal science, health sciences and economy, the PWG offers a channel for cross-disciplinary and intersectoral dialogue to contribute to the unifying One Health approach.
Motivation
Poultry is an affordable and healthy source of animal protein, positively influencing human nutrition and health. An environmentally-, and animal-friendly poultry production requires continuously improved knowledge in all poultry-relevant scientific disciplines, including nutrition, physiology, genetics, immunology, health and welfare. The issues related to poultry production are defined but still left without efficient solutions. These are needed to mitigate increasing susceptibility to environmental stresses such as climate and diseases, and transmission of antibiotic resistance, welfare issues, food-feed competition, consumers demand for high-quality food.
The PWG aims to promote discussions and exchanges among the scientific community, and support networking by providing a unique platform for emerging issues around poultry science.
Activities
Main activities include:
- organization of scientific sessions during the annual meetings of the EAAP
- addressing focal topics through webinars
- setting workable channels with Study Commissions in EAAP and outside the organization
- disseminating input from ‘poultry researchers’ to EAAP (eg. through popularizing articles)
