It provides up-to-date information on veterinary medicine and scientific research on animal husbandry, and also features regular reports on conferences and activities organized by the EAAP and the Union of Spanish Entities of Animal Science (UEECA). The UEECA was established in 2010 and currently comprises 14 associations. It is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries (MAPA), where advises upon request for the formulation of livestock policies. Through their participation to the EAAP, the UEECA promotes Spanish scientific research in Animal Science within the European context. By including bimonthly updates and reports on the initiatives of the EAAP and the UEECA, Albéitar ensures that its readers are well-informed about the latest developments and innovations in the field of animal science and care across Europe. Early-bird registration for WAFL meeting is approaching! https://www.eaap.org/early-bird-registration-for-wafl-meeting-is-approaching/ Tue, 11 Jun 2024 09:23:49 +0000 https://www.eaap.org/?p=7490 The 9th International Conference on the Welfare Assessment of Animals at Farm Level (WAFL) will be held in Florence on August 30th-31st, 2024. This is the first inperson WAFL since 2017, following a successful online conference in 2021. Organized with the EAAP Health and Welfare Study Commission, WAFL 2024 will feature two days of single sessions and poster presentations, including a Delegate Forum on the future of Animal
Welfare Science. Attendees can enjoy a conference dinner on August 30th. Early registration ends soon (June 15th), therefore please register by then to enjoy the discounted fee. Authors must also register by June 15th to keep their abstracts in the scientific program. The 2024 DSA Awardees https://www.eaap.org/the-2024-dsa-awardees/ Thu, 30 May 2024 08:26:49 +0000 https://www.eaap.org/?p=7457 The European Association for Animal Production (EAAP) is proud to announce the recipients of the 2024 Distinguished Service Awards, honouring three exemplary individuals for their outstanding contributions to the livestock sector and their dedicated service to EAAP. This year, we celebrate Helga Sauerwein from Germany, Martin Lidauer from Finland, and Ilan Halachmi from Israel. Helga Sauerwein, former President of the Physiology Study Commission, has been a pioneering force in animal physiology and welfare, significantly advancing our understanding of animal health and productivity. Martin Lidauer, formerly Council member with responsibilities with the Young EAAP Scientists, works in animal genetics and breeding where he provides invaluable insights and tools for sustainable animal production. Ilan Halachmi, former Council member and first President of the Precision Livestock Farming Study Commission, expert in precision livestock farming have where he sets new standards for efficiency and sustainability in the sector, driving forward technological advancements that benefit both animals and farmers. These distinguished individuals have not only excelled in their respective fields but have also shown firm commitment to the goals and mission of EAAP. We extend our sincere congratulations and gratitude to Helga Sauerwein, Martin Lidauer and Ilan Halachmi for their extraordinary service and contributions.

Young scientists are selected for the quality of the research paper they submit for the meeting. The EAAP at the Royal Academy of Veterinary Sciences of Spain https://www.eaap.org/the-eaap-at-the-royal-academy-of-veterinary-sciences-of-spain/ Thu, 16 May 2024 13:08:42 +0000 https://www.eaap.org/?p=7423 Dr. José Antonio Mendizábal, professor of Animal Production at the Public University of Navarra (UPNA), was recently appointed Academician of the Royal Academy of Veterinary Sciences of Spain (RACVE), for the section of Veterinary History. His acceptance speech entitled “Aviculture and Veterinary Sciences in Spain. A history of encounters and progress” was presented at the admission session, where Isabel Casasús, president of the EAAP, was invited to share the presidential table with prominent Academicians of the RACVE. Apart from his longstanding interest in veterinary history, Dr. Mendizábal’s research focuses on carcass and meat quality and the development and metabolism of fat tissue, with several national and international collaborations. Together with a large team of coworkers from UPNA, they have participated in EAAP meetings for more than 25 years. Very well-deserved congratulations!
